One scholarship is for a current MFA student.  Only students who are currently in an MFA program may apply for this scholarship.  A short personal essay, an unofficial academic transcript, and a letter of recommendation are required as part of the application.

The other scholarship is for a Connecticut resident.  A short personal essay, proof of CT residency (such as a driver's license or utility bill), and a letter of recommendation are required to complete the application.

Date: The application deadline is April 30th, and applicants will receive their decision by May 1st.

AWP Scholarships

Students may also apply for a scholarship available through the Association of Writers and Writing Programs through the WC&C Scholarship Competition. AWP offers three annual scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers who wish to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. Writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction are encouraged to enter. The scholarships are applied to fees for winners. Winners and six finalists also receive a one-year individual membership in AWP.
