Yale historian George Pierson observed that "Yale is at once a tradition, a company of scholars, and a society of friends." This is a place to share your love of learning, and contribute your own experiences to centuries of scholarly pursuit.

In the Classroom

Yale’s collaborative model teaches students how to think critically and creatively. Students are active participants in their classes, contributing to a dynamic atmosphere.

Our Residential Colleges

Yale dormitories, called residential colleges, are the foundation of Yale’s social and intellectual structure, and are not so much “colleges” as communities. Like minicampuses, the colleges serve as dormitories, dining halls, clubs, community centers, theaters, libraries, administrative offices, seminar rooms, and even printing presses. The residential colleges serve as a focal point for both informal and planned activities.

Going Off Campus

You will find New Haven a wonderful place to learn and grow during the summer. Yale Summer Session also offers organized, supervised outings and field trips which in the past have included visits to area museums and summer theater performances, a day at the beach, sailing on Long Island Sound, hiking in the Berkshires, and excursions to New York and Boston for Broadway plays and major league baseball games.
