CISI Health Insurance Plan
Visiting international students attending Yale Summer Session in person are automatically enrolled in and billed for a comprehensive U.S.-based health insurance plan through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) if they meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a visiting international student coming to Yale on an I-20 issued by Yale, traveling on a non-U.S. passport, and living on or off campus in the U.S.
- You indicated in your application that you will arrive to the U.S. on your U.S. passport and would like to enroll in our insurance plan, as your primary residence is outside of the U.S.
This CISI plan serves as your primary health insurance while you are enrolled in the program, unless otherwise noted. If you become ill or injured during the program, you can use their on-line portal and database to find an in-network medical provider.
The CISI Health Insurance differs from the Yale Health fee. The Yale Health fee gives all students living on campus access to limited care at the Yale Health Center.
Coverage Dates & Enrollment Timeline
Enrollment occurs approximately one week before your program begins. Your health insurance coverage starts on the Sunday prior to your program’s start date and continues through the Saturday immediately following the conclusion of your program.
Once enrolled, CISI will email you your insurance confirmation, policy details (what the insurance covers), and digital insurance card.
Please save the email and keep it accessible throughout your program, as you may need it when seeking medical care. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder if you do not see the email. You can also print your insurance card and keep it in your wallet for easy access.
Extending Your Coverage
If you would like to extend your health insurance beyond your Yale Summer Session dates, you may do so directly with CISI after your initial enrollment, for an additional fee. Contact Yale Summer Session and we will connect you to our insurance company representative. You will pay the insurance company directly for additional coverage.

Spouses & Dependent Coverage
If you are traveling to New Haven with a spouse or children, you can elect to have them join your policy as well. After the initial enrollment, please contact Yale Summer Session and we can connect you with our insurance company representative to add them to your policy. You will pay the insurance company directly for this additional enrollment.
