Yale Summer Session Pre-Arrival Orientation

Welcome to Yale Summer Session!  We can't wait for your arrival to campus. This is the pre-arrival orientation for incoming visiting students. The information in this video will prepare you for the amazing summer ahead.

Pre Arrival Checklist

Here are the important things you need to do before you arrive at Yale Summer Session:

Activate your NetID

Within one week of your acceptance to Summer Session, you will receive two email messages regarding your Yale NetID. One message will contain your NetID and the other message will contain your activation PIN and instructions. You will need to activate your NetID as soon as you receive these emails.  If you have not received these emails within 2 weeks of your acceptance, please email us and we can assist you.

Meet the Immunization Requirement

Yale University requires all students who enroll at Yale to provide proof of immunizations. All required douments are due one week before your program start date.  See our immunization requirements and upload your documents.

Provide a photo for your Yale Student ID card

Your Yale Student ID card allows you to access Yale's libraries, residential colleges, dining halls, and much more.  Once you have activated your Yale NetID, you can upload a photo for your Yale ID card on the Yale ID Center website. Be sure to upload the photo at least one week before your program start date!

Pay your balance

Once you are admitted to Yale Summer Session, an invoice for your expenses is automatically generated.  See our payment deadlines and information on our Dates and Costs page.

Make your travel plans

See our travel information to learn how to get to Yale.  Make sure you check program dates and housing check in dates before you make your plans.  If you are an international student coming on an I-20, please be sure to allow time to get your F-1 student visa!  You may not arrive early or stay late in our on campus housing.

Register online

Check your email for a message about online registration.  It comes about two weeks before your program start date.  You'll confirm your courses and provide summer contact information.

Pack your bags

June is usually sunny and warm, and July and August are hotter, more humid months. Students dress casually and comfortably. Bring a sweater or light jacket for cool evenings. You may want to bring something nice for a special event or night out.

On campus, your room will have a bed, a desk, a chair, a light, a pillow and light blanket.  Bring a fan, towels and sheets (twin, extra-long) or buy them when you get here.

Check your email regularly

We'll be sending you email newsletters and announcements before your arrival.
