Strengthen Your Graduate-Level English
Tip: The Postgraduate Seminar will be offered in person on campus in Summer 2024.
The Postgraduate Seminar is an intensive English program for international students who are attending or planning to attend graduate school in the U.S., or for mature or professional students who want to study English in a serious academic setting. The program is designed to prepare you for the rigors of graduate school and polish your academic writing and speaking skills. You will improve your overall abilities in both spoken and written English, as well as your understanding of U.S. academic culture.

Postgraduate Seminar Course
The Postgraduate Seminar is a multiskills program that covers the academic and English language skills postgraduate students need for success. Students in the Seminar will:
- Practice academic research skills drawing upon your own area of research and interest
- Learn the conventions of academic writing (citing sources, intellectual property rights, making use of the Internet, scholarly publications)
- Discuss assigned readings that model processes and strategies used in academic writing
- Develop active listening skills using conversation, interviews, media broadcasts, lectures, and films
- Learn the conventions of presentations, roundtable or panel discussions and small-group conversation
- Increase your academic, professional and everyday vocabulary

Financial Assistance
Yale Summer Session only offers financial assistance to Yale College students. Financial assistance is not available for visiting students at this time. Visiting students should contact the financial aid office at their home institutions to discuss their options for financial assistance.
Application Information
To apply, review the application requirements for international students and fill out the Yale Summer Session application. The English Language Institute programs are offered under Yale Summer Session B course listings. Proof of English proficiency is not required for this program.
