The English Language Institute at Yale Summer Session
Offered during Yale Summer Session B, the English Language Institute (ELI) provides a dynamic and immersive learning experience for international students and professionals. These non-credit summer programs are designed to strengthen English language skills while building the academic and professional competencies needed for future success—all on Yale’s historic and inspiring campus.
Students live in Yale’s residential colleges alongside a global community of peers, supported by dedicated residential counselors and a vibrant social program. From faculty-led lectures and on-campus events to excursions in New Haven and beyond, the experience extends well beyond the classroom. Highlights include day trips to New York City for Broadway shows and sightseeing, visits to local beaches, amusement parks, and outlet shopping, plus community-building activities like game nights, sports, and cultural outings.
Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Participation—along with lasting friendships, valuable skills, and a deeper understanding of American academic and cultural life.
[point] Proof of English proficiency is not required for the ELI programs. Students in the Law and Business Seminars are expected to have strong English language skills.
