Academic Information for Visiting College Students
In the online application, you’ll select courses for credit or a specific program. We recommend reviewing course descriptions on the YSS Courses for Credit site beforehand to choose the best fit.
Once admitted, you’ll be officially enrolled in Yale Summer Session. Full-time study consists of two courses (2 credits) per session, which is also the maximum allowed.
If you decide not to attend after admission, you must withdraw by submitting the Change Form on the Yale Summer Session website.
What kind of transcript do I submit?
Submit an unofficial transcript or academic record in English as part of your application. The online application allows you to upload an unofficial copy.
- Current university or college students: Submit a transcript from your current institution and any previous colleges or universities you’ve attended.
 - All transcripts must include:
- Your name and the institution’s name
 - Dates of enrollment
 - Subjects or courses taken, with units of credit or time allotted
 - Final grades

Applications are evaluated holistically, so there is no minimum GPA requirement. You should be academically strong and prepared for rigorous study, as one semester’s worth of coursework is condensed into a 5-week session.
For In-person Study: Insurance and Vaccinations
Required Health Insurance
You are required to be enrolled in a U.S. based health insurance in order to attend Yale Summer Session's in-person courses. We will ask you to upload your valid insurance card as part of your online application. Students coming to study in-person from abroad should review the visiting international student page for information about the Yale Summer Session insurance for international students.
Required Vaccination and Immunization Records
If you will attend in-person classes or live on campus, you must upload proof of vaccinations after admission. You will receive an email with a link and instructions for submitting your records (managed by another Yale office).
Be sure to review all vaccination requirements and deadlines. Delays in submission may require you to switch to online courses (if available) or withdraw from Yale Summer Session if your immunization cannot be verified in time.
Residential Information for Visiting College Students
During the summer, select Yale Residential Colleges (dormitories) are open, with Yale undergraduates serving as residential counselors to provide support and assistance. All students aged 18 or older are housed together. For more information about living on campus, be sure to explore the Experience section of our website.
