Student Bio

Jaza is a 21-year-old student from Indonesia who spent her summer with YSS in Sessions A and B. She took classes in global health, film, and race theory.

During YSS, her typical day involved classes, studying, breaks, and YSS activities. She woke up around 6 a.m., spent 30 minutes working, then had breakfast at 7:30 a.m.. If she didn’t have class, Jaza explored Yale and the New Haven area, visited places like the Yale Art Gallery and local cafes, and participated in YSS study breaks. In the evening, she worked until 10 p.m., then headed to the buttery for snacks and time with friends.

For future YSS students, she recommends utilizing Yale's resources like libraries, research facilities, and academic support services. She also recommends checking out Yale's historic sites, such as the Yale University Art Gallery and the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Jaza also encourages future students to take advantage of YSS activities like intramural sports, trips to Broadway shows, or baseball games at Yankee Stadium. YSS is a chance to meet people and create lasting memories.

Now back at her home university, Jaza balances her academic routine with involvement in organizations like Girl Up Unair and Airlangga Safe Space, advocating for gender equality and mental health. She also volunteers at her university's international office, working on a team project to mentor students applying for international mobility programs and study abroad.
