Hefina’s daily life reflects Yale’s broader synthesis of academic rigor with a robust social experience. She advises future students “to learn to manage their time well because I had many readings to do, and yet a lot of fun summer activities I wanted to join, so juggling between the two was difficult sometimes.” Hefina recommends YSS to other students, due to the unique learning experience not as available in other countries while making fun memories with friends.

Student Bio

Hefina Gunawan is a 20-year-old student at The Bandung Institute of Technology, majoring in Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. She was on campus for both sessions, taking Global Health Ethnography and Medicine and the Humanities in Session A, and Education and Empire and Film, Video, and American History in Session B.

Hefina’s daily life at Yale Summer Session mirrored a student’s day at Yale University during the school year. Hefina woke up around 5 A.M. to do some morning work before heading over to the dining hall for breakfast. In between classes, Hefina studied around central campus, usually doing readings in the Grace Hopper courtyard, Beinecke Plaza, or Bass Library. After grabbing dinner, Hefina would go down to Grace Hopper College’s buttery to socialize in the game room or lounge with her friends.

Hefina is currently finishing up her last year of undergraduate studies back in Indonesia and is focused on finishing her thesis.
