Before you apply, read the application requirements and information for visiting college students below.

Application Requirements

Below is a list of the required documents for your application, along with additional details on specific requirements for students applying to attend in-person courses.

Please refer to Dates and Deadlines for all of the relevant deadlines. All supporting documentation must be received on or before the application deadline. Below the requirement list, we provide further explanation about some of the requirements.

The following materials are required for visiting college student applications:

  1. Online Application
  2. University Transcript (in English): with Fall 2024 grades. If your fall grades are not available and you have no university level grades to submit, then you must submit your high school transcript.

If applying to attend in-person, there are additional requirements for your application:

  1. Proof of valid U.S. based health insurance
  2. Immunization records

Be sure to read about Yale Summer Session's immunization requirements for students applying to take in-person courses or be on the Yale campus. This requirement will need to be fulfilled after admission but before arrival to Yale. This is required for students who will be taking in-person classes and living on or off campus.

Academic Information for Visiting College Students

In the online application, you'll select your courses for credit or choose a specific program. We recommend reading the course descriptions beforehand to ensure you choose the best fit. Once you’re admitted to a course or program, you’ll be officially enrolled in Yale Summer Session. Full-time study consists of two courses (totaling 2 credits) per session, which is also the maximum enrollment allowed.

If you decide not to attend after being admitted, you’ll need to withdraw from Yale Summer Session by completing the Change Form.

What kind of transcript do I submit?

An unofficial transcript or academic record in English is required as part of your application to Yale Summer Session. The online application enables you to upload an unofficial copy of your academic transcript.

Currently enrolled university or college students must submit a transcript of your current university/college and/or any colleges/universities you attended.

[note] All academic transcripts must show your name, the name of the institution, dates of enrollment, and the subjects or courses taken, together with the units of credit or time allotted to each subject and the final grade.

Applications are evaluated holistically, therefore, we do not have a G.P.A. requirement. You should be an academically strong student and be prepared to undertake rigorous academic study in Yale Summer Session. Remember, one semester's worth of work is condensed into a 5-week session.

For In-person Study: Insurance and Vaccinations

Required Health Insurance

You are required to be enrolled in a U.S. based health insurance in order to attend Yale Summer Session's in-person courses. We will ask you to upload your valid insurance card as part of your on-line application.

Required Vaccination and Immunization Records

After admission, you will be required to upload proof of vaccinations if you will be attending classes in-person or living on campus. After admission, you will be emailed a link and information about where to upload your vaccination records (this process is managed by another office at Yale). Be sure to review all vaccination information and the relevant deadlines to submit your information and be verified so that you can successfully attend Summer Session in-person. Any delay in providing this information may cause you to have to switch to online courses (if space is available) or withdraw from Yale Summer Session if your immunization information cannot be verified in time.

Residential Information for Visiting College Students

During the summer, select Yale Residential Colleges (dormitories) are open, with Yale undergraduates serving as residential counselors to provide support and assistance. All students aged 18 or older are housed together. For more information about living on campus, be sure to explore the "Experience" section.

We’re excited to have visiting college students join our vibrant academic community this summer.
