Welcome to Yale Summer Session (YSS)

Thank you so much for your interest and commitment to teaching during the summer. Summer teaching continues to be a valuable contribution to the University and our students. It also offers faculty the opportunity to use the summer as a teaching laboratory, piloting new course ideas and experimenting with pedagogical methods.

Introduction

Situated within Yale College, Yale Summer Session’s mission is to foster intellectual growth in a community of summer scholars while promoting Yale’s tradition of academic excellence. Our faculty and students share ideas, interests, and talents, celebrate their unique contributions and perspectives, and learn from each other. Yale Summer Session (YSS) offers courses in New Haven, online, and abroad.

The information contained on this website is designed to help instructors plan for summer teaching. We present the most important policies and practices as they apply to teaching in YSS. These policies form part of the essential employment understandings between instructors and YSS.  Where regulations are not explicitly delineated, YSS uses the regular academic-year Academic and Undergraduate Regulations as a guide.
