After admission to Yale Summer Session, you will need to complete any required enrollment steps, access your YalePay account, and pay your bill by the applicable deadlines. Use this page to learn how to confirm your enrollment, make payments, and understand Yale Summer Session’s payment and refund policies. Review all deadlines carefully to ensure you meet the requirements for your enrollment.

Confirming Your Enrollment

Upon admission to Yale Summer Session, current Yale College students are automatically enrolled in the courses listed in their acceptance letter. They do not need to submit a Reply to Offer Form or take additional steps to confirm enrollment.

Visiting students enrolled in five-week programs or courses must accept their offer of admission by submitting the Reply to Offer Form, a $500 Enrollment Deposit, a $50 Administrative Fee, and if applicable, a $125 I-20 Processing Fee by the deadline listed in their Checklist for Admitted Students. The $500 deposit is applied toward tuition and will appear on the student bill. The Enrollment Deposit, Administrative Fee, and I-20 Processing Fee are non-refundable.

Visiting students who miss the deadline to submit their Enrollment Deposit, Administrative Fee, and I-20 Processing Fee will be withdrawn from their courses.

Viewing and Paying Your Bill

After your Yale Summer Session enrollment is confirmed, an invoice for your expenses is automatically generated, and an electronic billing notification, with instructions on how to log into YalePay to view your account and pay your bill, will be sent to the e-mail address you provided in your online application.

Summer charges do not begin to post until late March, so your summer account balance may appear as $0 until then.

To view your bill, you must have an active Yale NetID and password. Visiting students will receive instructions for activating their Yale NetID within ten business days of submitting their non-refundable Enrollment Deposit, Administrative Fee, and I-20 Processing Fee.

Your Account Summary will list the charges due for summer courses. Please take careful note of Yale Summer Session’s payment deadlines. If you apply later in the cycle, April to June, your actual payment deadline may be earlier than what is listed on your account statement. In this case, please pay by the earlier Yale Summer Session payment deadline; it is your responsibility to submit payment in full before the relevant deadline.

Financial aid loan checks must be received by Student Financial and Administrative Services by the payment deadlines.

[Point] To view and pay your summer balance online in YalePay:

  1. Select Student Log In, and sign in with your Yale NetID and password.
  2. From the menu, select Account Activity, then select the appropriate term to view your transaction details.
  3. Select Make Payment and choose a payment method:
    1. e-Check: Enter the routing number and account number for a U.S. bank account.
    2. International Payment via Flywire: Select the country from which the payment will be sent. Flywire will then display the available payment options for that country.
  4. If both summer and fall bills are displayed and you are making a summer payment only, be sure to change the Amount to Pay to the amount due for the summer term before submitting your payment.
  5. Your account will be updated as soon as Yale Student Financial Services processes your payment. Electronic payments will be updated immediately, wire transfers within three business days.

YalePay

Nonpayment by the deadline may result in a withdrawal from Yale Summer Session. Students with outstanding financial obligations, whether for Yale Summer Session or for previous terms at Yale University, may not be permitted to register for classes.

Payment Methods

Yale University recommends payment online through YalePay. There is no charge to use this service, and payments are immediately posted to the student account. The University also accepts payment by check, by a third party, and by international or domestic wire transfer.

Aside from the Application Fee, and the Enrollment Deposit, Administrative Fee, and if applicable, I-20 Processing Fee for visiting students, Yale Summer Session is unable to accept credit or debit cards as a method of payment for the full balance.

Payment plans are not available in Yale Summer Session. Budgeted Payment Plans open on May 1 for the fall term only and should not be used to pay a summer balance. If students or their proxies enroll in a payment plan for the summer term, the payment plan will be terminated. The enrollment fee for the payment plan cannot be refunded.

Payment by Check

Checks should be made payable to Yale University. All payments must be made in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank.

For accurate processing, the student’s full name and nine-digit Yale student identification (SID) number must appear on the check. Please allow for adequate mailing time to ensure that payment is received by the deadline.

For standard First-Class mail, checks should be sent to the following address:

Yale University
Post Office Box 208232
New Haven, Connecticut 06520-8232

If and only if you are sending your check via overnight or express delivery, please use the following address:

A copy of your award letter or other appropriate documentation must accompany your written request for third-party billing.

Refund Policies

[point] The Application Fee is non-refundable. The Enrollment Deposit, Administrative Fee, and if applicable, I-20 Processing Fee for visiting students are also non-refundable.

For students enrolled in CISI health insurance coverage, the CISI fee is refundable only to those who withdraw entirely from Yale Summer Session, or elect to enroll in online courses only to study fully outside of the United States, by the first Monday of the relevant five-week session at 9:00am EDT. The CISI insurance fee is fully non-refundable after the first Monday of the relevant five-week session at 9:00am EDT.

For five-week courses in New Haven or online, Yale Summer Session will refund or credit course tuition and residential fees according to the terms and schedule listed below. No refunds will be made unless we have received appropriate written notification via the Change Form on the Yale Summer Session website. For visiting students, any refund will be calculated after deducting the non-refundable Enrollment Deposit.

Students in the Yale Writers’ Workshop, the Yale Summer Session Seminar in Art History, and the Yale Summer Humanities Scholars Program should consult their websites for program-specific information.

Students are advised to take special note of these financial policies and deadlines; for consistency and fairness across all Yale Summer Session students, they are strictly enforced. Students may wish to consider obtaining outside tuition insurance.

Course Tuition

The following refund schedule applies to five-week courses in Yale Summer Session.

  1. If a student withdraws from a course at least five days prior to the start of the relevant five-week session, at 5:00pm EDT, 100% of the course tuition and, if applicable, the Technology Fee will be refunded or credited.

    Session A: Wednesday, May 26, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT
    Session B: Wednesday, June 30, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT

  2. If a student withdraws from a course by the first Friday of the relevant five-week session, at 5:00pm EDT, 100% of the course tuition and, if applicable, the Technology Fee will be refunded or credited, minus a $125 processing fee per course.

    Session A: Friday, June 4, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT
    Session B: Friday, July 9, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT

The Technology Fee is fully non-refundable after the first Friday of the relevant five-week session at 5:00pm EDT.

For visiting students who have paid the non-refundable Enrollment Deposit, the processing fee will be deducted from the deposit. If total processing or other fees exceed the amount of the deposit, the student will be responsible for the balance.

  3. If a student withdraws from a course by the second Friday of the relevant five-week session, at 5:00pm EDT, 50% of the course tuition will be refunded or credited.

    Session A: Friday, June 11, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT
    Session B: Friday, July 16, 2027, at 5:00pm EDT

  4. No course tuition will be refunded or credited if a student withdraws from a course after the second Friday of the relevant five-week session at 5:00pm EDT.

If applicable, YSS Financial Assistance and YSS Scholarships for course tuition will be reduced proportionally before any refund is issued. For example, if a student enrolls in a one-credit course in Yale Summer Session 2027 and receives YSS Financial Assistance covering 50% of tuition, then withdraws on the second Monday of the relevant five-week session, the student remains responsible for $1,422.50 of the full $5,690 course tuition. Similarly, if a student enrolls in a one-credit course in Yale Summer Session 2027 and receives a YSS Scholarship covering $2,100 of tuition, then withdraws on the second Monday of the relevant five-week session, the student remains responsible for $1,795 of the full $5,690 course tuition. YSS Financial Assistance and YSS Scholarships apply toward course tuition only and not toward any other fees.

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the accuracy of their course enrollment and to withdraw promptly from any courses they no longer intend to take. Withdrawals must be requested via the Change Form on the Yale Summer Session website. Failure to attend or submit work in a course, and requests via phone or e-mail, do not constitute a withdrawal.

Residential Fees

For students who have elected to live in the Yale Summer Session Summer Colleges, a full refund of residential fees for room and board and residential student activities will be issued if a student relinquishes on-campus housing or withdraws entirely from Yale Summer Session prior to the move-in date for the relevant five-week session and via the Change Form on the Yale Summer Session website.

Once students are in residence in the Yale Summer Session Summer Colleges, they are entitled to a partial refund of residential fees only by relinquishing on-campus housing or withdrawing entirely from Yale Summer Session via the Change Form by the first Friday of the relevant five-week session at 5:00pm EDT. In such cases, the student will be charged prorated residential fees for each day in residence. Before a refund can be authorized, the student’s room must be inspected, and the room keys must be returned to the Summer Housing Office.

No residential fees for room and board and residential student activities will be refunded to students who relinquish on-campus housing or withdraw entirely from Yale Summer Session after the first Friday of the relevant five-week session at 5:00pm EDT.

Refund Methods

Once authorized and initiated, refunds will be made by direct deposit or, if the student has not enrolled in direct deposit, by paper check mailed to the student’s mailing address on file. Direct deposit refunds are issued each business day while paper check refunds are issued once a week, so students are strongly encouraged to enroll in direct deposit. You can enroll in direct deposit for your refund through the Yale Hub. After logging in, select Student Accounts and then Direct Deposit Authorization. Even with direct deposit, it may take additional time for the refund to be processed by your financial institution.

All refunds will be issued in the student's name, unless the refund results from excess funds from a Parent PLUS Loan or the return of an outside scholarship. In such cases, the refund will be made to the original source in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies.

If an international payment was made via Flywire, the refund will go back to the person or organization that made the payment, once the student initiates the refund request and it is approved.

Students should request a refund by e-mailing yss.registrar@yale.edu.
