Course closed to further enrollment. Online Course. In this course we will study five major wars grappling China in the twentieth century: WWI, WWII, the Chinese Civil War, Korean War, and the Sino-Vietnamese War. This course employs recent paradigms and new sources to examine the impact of global and regional conflicts on society, environment, and everyday life in modern China. Situating China’s warfare within the global context, this course rethinks war not only as a time of upheaval and rupture, but also a critical condition for state building and global integration. No prerequisite or language requirement. 1 Credit. Session B: June 29 – July 31. Tuition: $5480. Technology Fee: $85.
