Course Information
The list below provides important details about the structure and requirements of Yale Summer Session online courses.
- Each course is worth one (1) Yale College credit, the equivalent of four (4) credit hours.
- Each course meets for five weeks, with specific start and end dates in either Summer Session A or Summer Session B.
- Online courses are not exclusively self-study or self-paced; you are required to attend classes over Zoom several times a week over the course of the five-week session. See the course list for class schedules.
- Yale Summer Session courses are taught at an accelerated pace, with a typical 13-week curriculum compressed to five weeks. This results in a much heavier weekly workload than you might experience during the fall or spring semester. It is important to consider this when planning summer activities and applying for courses; students should expect to devote about 15-20 total hours per week, per course.
- There are no makeup or rescheduled exams for online courses, so please verify that there are no conflicts with your course schedule.
- Some online faculty will provide pre-recorded lectures, while others will deliver their lectures live during the class meetings on Zoom.
[point] All courses will have scheduled meeting times during the week, and attendance online is required.
Be sure to carefully review the course information to ensure you’re prepared for the accelerated pace and commitment required for a successful summer experience.
