In-person Course. Techniques of in-depth reporting, ranging from interviews and document research to journalistic storytelling; the evolution of "muckraking" in the United States; and the ethical, philosophical, and political issues raised by such work. Improvement of the students' practical research and narrative skills through weekly assignments and a term-long writing project. Designed equally for those with journalistic experience and for those with skills in other arenas. Note: While this class does not have formal prerequisites, it is an upper-level writing seminar.
