Daniela Batalla González speaks about her daily routine with the Yale Summer Session Conservatory for Actors.
"Starting the day at 9am we had a warm-up at the Iseman Theater with everyone from the program. Here we prepared our body for the rest of the day. Afterwards, we divide into three sections for our acting class."
"At 12pm, we had a delicious lunch at one of the dining halls. After this, we had some free time to work on our rehearsals or tutorials, and even some homework. At 3pm, we had voice class with at the Iseman Theater. We learned to identify different archetype tendencies, roots for bad habits, and breathing techniques. After dinner, we then worked on some neutral scenes with our partners and monologues. We also had to read a play and learn a scene to work on with our partners. We usually finished class around 10pm and afterwards, some of us hung out in the Grace Hopper buttery."
"My favorite class was acting because I've only been working on musical theater, so for me, separating the performance on a song and the acting was new. I came to the Conservatory to broaden my skillset and build upon what I knew in order to grow. This class showed me that I really love acting, and that learning and working is the only way to improve."
"My advice to future students is to work hard and allow yourself to be you! At first you think everyone is so talented and are already so amazing, but they are learning just as you are! So allow yourself to make mistakes, be open-minded to take in all the information, be who you are, and it’ll be the best 5 weeks of your life!"
