Before applying, please take a moment to review the application requirements and important information for Yale College students below.

Application Requirements

Yale College students applying to Yale Summer Session must submit an online application and pay a non-refundable $80 application fee. Both the application and fee are required to complete the process and be considered for enrollment.

[cal] Please refer to Dates and Deadlines for all of the relevant deadlines. All supporting documentation must be received on or before the application deadline. Below the requirement list, we provide further explanation about some of the requirements.

Academic Information for Yale College Students

As a Yale College student, you’ll select your desired courses in the online application. Before making your selection, we recommend reviewing the course descriptions to ensure you choose the best fit. Due to the condensed nature of summer courses, there is no Add/Drop period during Yale Summer Session, and the window for changing courses is very limited.

Once admitted to a course or program, you are officially enrolled in Yale Summer Session and will receive a grade unless you drop the course or withdraw by completing an online withdrawal form. Full-time study consists of two courses (totaling two credits) per session, which is also the maximum enrollment allowed.

For information about Credit/D/Fail policies, consult the YSS Student Handbook

Please note that Dean’s excuses are not available during the summer term. If you need guidance on whether a course fulfills requirements for your Yale College degree, consult your residential college dean, DUS, or another academic adviser.

For In-person Study: Insurance

For Yale College students who are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, your Yale Health insurance coverage will continue normally as it does during the academic year.

For Yale College students who are returning from an approved spring semester study abroad program: your Yale Health insurance coverage has been turned off and will restart at the beginning of the fall semester. Contact Yale Health Member Services with questions about the gap in coverage.

For Yale College seniors who have just graduated & are attending Session B: your Yale Health insurance coverage will end while Session B is in session so you will have a gap in insurance coverage. Contact Yale Health Member Services with questions about the gap in coverage.

Yale Summer Session Financial Assistance

Yale Summer Session offers financial assistance to Yale College students on financial aid. In addition, Yale College students may also be eligible for additional financial assistance. See Financial Assistance for more information.

Residential Information for Yale College Students

Select Yale Residential Colleges are open during the summer, but you may be assigned to a different college than the one you belong to during the academic year. If this is the case, you will not have access to your regular college. Only certain dining halls will be open throughout the summer. Yale undergraduates serve as residential counselors, offering support and assistance during your stay. For more details about living on campus, be sure to visit the "YSS Experience" section.

Be a Residential Counselor!

Yale College students may also apply to be a member of the residential life staff. As a Residential Counselor, students receive free room and board for the orientation period and the ten weeks of summer session, plus a tuition waiver for the equivalent of one summer course credit, so you'll need to be able to commit to the 10 weeks plus the orientation days. Other residential life staff positions with varying levels of compensation are available.
