[date]2026 Yale Summer Session Dates

Session A: May 25 - June 26, 2026

Session B: June 29 - July 31, 2026

Application Requirements

Yale Summer Session seeks motivated people who wish to enroll in a course or program!

[Note] Please refer to Dates and Deadlines for all of the relevant deadlines. All supporting documentation must be received on or before the application deadline. Below the requirement list, we provide further explanation about some of the requirements.

Requirements for Beyond College Student Applications

  1. Online Application
  2. University Transcript (in English). If you have been out of college for five years or more, you must substitute a resume or curriculum vitae in lieu of a transcript.
  3. Photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport, other government-issued ID, or official school ID)

Additional Application Requirements for Attending In-person

  1. Valid U.S. based health insurance card.
  2. Immunization records: for students who will study in-person with us and live on or off campus.

Be sure to read about Yale Summer Session's immunization requirements for students applying to take in-person courses or be on the Yale campus. This requirement will need to be fulfilled after admission but before arrival to Yale.

Important Information for Post-College Applicants

If you are an incoming Yale Graduate student starting your program in the fall, be sure to check with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences about funding opportunities and how they may apply to Yale Summer Session. If you are attending another professional school at Yale, confirm with your program how Summer Session courses will count toward your degree and whether funding is available. Please note that Yale Summer Session courses for credit are undergraduate-level; we do not offer graduate-level courses.

If you’re interested in the Yale Writers' Workshop or the English Language Institute, visit their program pages for application details.

For those looking to fulfill a medical school requirement, explore our course catalog to review available offerings.

Academic Information for Beyond College Students

As a beyond-college student, you'll select your courses for credit or program through the online application. We recommend reviewing course descriptions on the YSS Courses for Credit site beforehand to find the best fit for your interests and goals.

If you are applying to the English Language Institute (ELI), please note that you cannot also apply for courses for credit, as the ELI program is a full-time commitment when offered in person.

Once admitted to a course or program, you are officially enrolled in Yale Summer Session. If you decide not to attend after admission, you must withdraw by submitting the Change Form on the YSS website.

For credit courses, full-time study is defined as two courses (2 credits) per session, which is also the maximum enrollment allowed.

What kind of transcript do I submit?

An unofficial transcript or academic record in English is required as part of your application to Yale Summer Session. The online application enables you to upload an unofficial copy of your academic transcript.  If you have been out of college for more than five years, in lieu of a transcript, you can submit a current resume or curriculum vitae (CV).

All academic transcripts must show the name of the institution, dates of enrollment, and the subjects or courses taken, together with the units of credit or time allotted to each subject and the final grade.

Applications are evaluated holistically, therefore, we do not have a G.P.A. requirement. You should be an academically strong student, and be prepared to undertake rigorous academic study at Yale.

For In-person Study: Insurance & Vaccinations

Required Health Insurance

You are required to be enrolled in a U.S. based health insurance in order to attend Yale Summer Session's in-person courses. We will ask you to upload your valid insurance card as part of your online application.

Health and Safety

Required Vaccination & Immunization Records

After admission, you will be required to upload proof of vaccinations if you will be attending classes in-person and or living on campus. After admission, you will be emailed a link and information about where to upload your vaccination records (this process is managed by another office at Yale). Review all vaccination information and the relevant deadlines to submit your information and be verified so that you can successfully attend Summer Session in-person. Any delay in providing this information may cause you to have to switch to online courses (if available), or withdraw from Yale Summer Session.
